"In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God." (John 1:1-2 NLT)
"And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true; and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life." (1 John 5:20 KJV)
Without knowing the truth, the truth about who Jesus really is, the cross just becomes an object of torment and where a sacrifice was poured out to ransom us, as if God was just paying a price for our sins by providing His Son to pay the ransom. This might did it for some, as it was what I was raised to think it all meant; not really understanding that the real truth involved much much more! This is about the God that created everything, from the very beginning, giving of Himself, a Part of Himself, to come here to be punished and killed in the flesh, to save the flesh that He created!
Basically, if I had to paint a giant bulls-eye on the main attraction, it would probably be the cross; not so much the piece of wood that He was killed upon, but the whole notion of why it mattered that it was a cross and for what reason that He had to place Himself upon it, in order to save us from our sins. Who was Jesus Christ saving us from? In light of what we understand that He is, He was saving us from judgment, by whom? Interesting thought, but the rainbow illustration is pretty accurate; if it where a bow, where might the arrow be pointed?
When God flooded the earth, saving only Noah and his family, He judged the entire earth for their evil and wickedness. The next time that God would pour out His judgment on the entire world, He would take that judgment upon Himself, and it would be upon a cross, as a sign of His mercy! There is really nothing left that is going to be judged, as far as sin might go; but the only judgment left is that of not receiving the mercy that is being offered! It must be all or nothing; because the cross is the sign of just that, everything from north to south, and east to west; everything is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son!
With that, there is something else that has interested me, if you are interested in the science side of everything. It has been said that God is three distinct Persons, because everything is three and has three very distinct parts, all the way down to the smallest thing. We ourselves have three parts: body, soul, and spirit; so why are we so unable to understand the thought of a Holy Trinity? If God were to make man in His image, what might that image represent? Obviously it was not holy man? Well, maybe not yet!
I know that I don't know hardly anything worth speaking about, except for the power of the cross of Christ. This is why Paul said what he said, "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God." (Galatians 6:14-16 KJV)
To be frank and to the point, if you have been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ, there is no more judgment for your sins; that is the bottom line of what peace with God represents; complete forgiveness: you are as white as snow, there is nothing left that needs to be done for your sins to be forgiven! How many more ways can it be said? You are either a Saint, or you ain't...
"Who has believed our message? To whom has the LORD revealed his powerful arm? My servant grew up the the LORD'S presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected - a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all." (Isaiah 53:1-6 NLT)
