"The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." (Psalms 110:1)
As to the fact that Jesus was God, there is this little thing about the virgin birth that makes all the difference in the world; which is most likely why there are so many who deny that it happened. Take this verse for instance; it speaks powerfully about the Messiah, yet, those within the Jewish religion will not count it as such because Jesus used it to claim His origin. We see this account in Matthew 22:41-46, as the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus uses that opportunity to ask them, "What think ye of Christ? whose son is he?" This is a question of origin, not of ancestry; yet they seemed to miss the whole point of the question. If they had known the Scriptures as they thought that they did, then they would have known that the Christ would be born of the seed of a woman; which is not possible because the seed comes from a man and fertilizes the egg of a woman; therefore the woman would be a virgin and Christ would not have an earthly father. Besides that, the prophet Isaiah, a Book that they supposed to be God's word, says several different times the origin of Christ. In chapter 7, verse 14, it says, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Furthermore, Isaiah 9:6, which is a verse I like to share with the J.W. people that knock at my door, says, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." I think it is rather interesting how this question caused the Pharisees to not ask Jesus any more questions; at least not until He was on trial to be put to death. If only they had listened; but then again, it had to happen the way that it did...
"For the Lord declares, "I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain." The king proclaims the LORD'S degree: "The LORD said to me, 'You are my son. Today I have become your Father. Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.'" Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling. Submit to God's royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities -for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!" (Psalms 2:6-12) NLT
