"And over it the cherubim of glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now speak particularly." (Hebrews 9:5 KJV)
"Though I am the least deserving of all God's people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ. I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. God's purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rules and authorities in the heavenly places. This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord." (Ephesians 3:8-11 NLT)
About those three articles, spoken of yesterday, that manna which was given 6 days a week, was bread from Heaven, which represented the Word of God, which, as we see in John 1:14, is Jesus Christ, in the flesh. Additionally, truth be told, the Law was given to us in order to show us our sinful nature, as there is none of us that can actually keep every one of those commandments, because we all have a sin nature. And, if memory serves, Aaron's rod was a dead piece of wood; but it brought forth life when it budded leaves, which demonstrated New Life.
Not that it is a secret or anything, because these things are very apparent and they actually do represent the completed work of Christ Jesus; which may be the reason God had taken it to Heaven; if that is, the place it is at. This mercy seat, it is really quite mysterious and a little hard to explain. Some have thought it was just a covering for the Ark on the Covenant, and platform for which the cherubim rested, representing the area between these two figures, as God's place of dwelling.
Whatever they were for, they demonstrated the holiness of what they looked down upon; as they were placed face to face, and where both looking down to the lid of the Ark. Once a year the mercy seat was sprinkled with blood, "hence the lid of expiation, the propitiatory." (Whatever that means?) Regardless, it is very mysterious and has something that speaks of God's great mercy, which, if memory serves, it means that we do not get what we deserve...
"The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west." (PSALM 103:8-12 NLT)
