"Who is this sweeping in from the desert, leaning on her lover?" (S.O.S. 8:5 NLT)
"For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better." (Philippians 1:20-21 NLT)
Within the context of the verse, as simple as it might look, there are elements of three very important parts of our life in Christ: our transformation in Christ, that from which we came, and Him that keeps us, as we know that He will. If you really want to be used as a testimony of God's love and grace, then there is plenty of ways that God will accomplish that which is within your heart. Will all that see your life think it was such a good testimony? Most likely not. Many will only think it wasted and spent foolishly, doing the things that please ourselves.
There are many that believe Paul was once married; and that his wife either passed away, or that she left him, most likely as soon as He started following Christ. I was not there, so I don't really know the answer. But what I do know, is that without his wife, he was free to serve the Lord in any capacity or place that God should have him. And then, we have Solomon! You would be surprised to know that there are many Christians who do not know that Solomon was born of Bathsheba. They know he was the son of King David, but that other part of the story, they seem to have missed out on.
If you want to hear my opinion on testimonies, it is really not what you make of it that counts; it is what God makes of you, the likes of which is sometimes not even seen or known. God looks at the heart; He looks for the measure of trust in Him, as to His love, His abilities, and His commitment to fulfill His promises, come hell or high-water! Does that make the man or woman perfect? Not in the eyes of the world, that much is pretty obvious; but in the eyes of God, that is really all that matters...
"He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded, that what he promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God though our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." (Romans 4:20 - 5:2)
