"The upright love thee. I am black, but comely," (S.O.S. 1:4c - 5a)
Before I go any further, I must try to address this condition of weakness. There are several different views among believers about what weakness means, as to whether it is good or bad; or whether it is something that we even need to pay attention to, as if we should ignore our weaknesses and focus upon our strengths.
First and foremost, we must see what God says on the matter, and then agree with that! After all, if we are counting on the fact that He already knows everything about us, which is what we should do, then we need to know He wants every part of our lives to be surrendered to Him; the good, the bad, and the ugly; everything must be surrendered and given over to Him.
Another way to look at this, in a practical sense, is to consider what it might be to love someone that you knew everything about, even their secret thoughts; say it was your spouse, and you knew all that you could ever know about them; and you still madly in love with them, even though some of their thoughts were not so pleasant to you, or may actually offend you. What would make you overlook those unpleasant and offensive thoughts?
I know it might not be the way most of us have been raised. My mother always told me, "If you don't have anything good to say about someone, don't say anything." But this is not how this kind of love works! You are not going to get away with not sharing your thoughts with God, because He is already aware with what is in your heart. If you truly want to love Him, then you must be absolutely honest about everything, including anything!
The word "upright" is a word that speaks about agreement, as in to agree with what is right; and when it comes to a perfect relationship with God, He is always right; so even if you agree to disagree, you must still agree that He is right; asking Him to change you, to make you agreeable and right. This is what true love looks like: to be a friend, a true and honest friend, it is the only way...
"Then what's the advantage of being a Jew? Is there any value in the ceremony of circumcision? Yes, there are great benefits! First of all, the Jews were entrusted with the whole revelation of God. True, some of them were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean God will be unfaithful? Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him, "You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court." "But," some might say, "our sinfulness serves a good purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn't it unfair, then, for him to punish us?" (This is merely a human point of view.) Of course not! If God were not entirely fair, how would he be qualified to judge the world? "But," someone might still argue, "how can God condemn me as a sinner if my dishonesty highlights his truthfulness and brings him more glory?" And some people even slander us by claiming that we say, "The more we sin, the better it is!" Those who say such things deserve to be condemned." (Romans 3:1-8) NLT
