"For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant." (Psalms 105:42)
Regardless of our performance and our ability to keep His commands, we have a God that loves us unconditionally and without merit; all God would have us do, is to know without a doubt that He loves us. I heard a message yesterday from Pastor Jeff, where he said something in the way of our need to ask God's forgiveness over and over for the same sin; that we really only need to ask once, and all the other times we just need to say, 'Thank You for forgiving me!' I don't know about that, but I understand the concept. It is like when you pray for a healing; do you pray just once and then believe that He will do it, or do you continue to pray until it is done? I know it is a little bit different when we are talking about sin, but the concept is still the same; once you ask God for His forgiveness, you need not ask for it again; just remember that you asked, and then walk in His forgiveness, with a thankful heart. You know what I am talking about? When we come to God and say, 'Lord forgive me, for I have sinned against you again;' and then the Lord says, 'It's all pretty much the same sin, you have already been forgiven.' On the other hand, the devil will try and use our continued failure against us, saying, 'Look at you, you are not saved; you can't be saved, if you can't stop falling in sin.' I'm sorry, but there is something we must realize about the devil: he is jealous of us with envy, because he is not offered the same forgiveness that we are. The thing we need to remember is that God's promises cannot be touched, because they are His! If God makes a promise, then there is nothing anyone can do to remove it or change it, it is holy! One of the meanings that is assigned to the word for "holy," is the word sanctuary, as in the place where we might go for having fellowship with God. It is the place where we can go, because God has made it available to us; there is no other reason or way, except that He provides the way into His presence! That is what He has done for us! Just as He did for Abraham, in that He account onto Abraham righteousness; so He has accounted righteousness onto us that are washed to the blood of His Son! Why would God do such a thing to someone as unworthy as me? Why would He not have given up on me? Wow...
"I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else -not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself." (Ephesians 1:19-23) NLT
