"She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river." (Psalms 80:11) I'm pretty sure that God has something to say about those who would lead people away from Him, but we are also responsible for our own salvation. In other words, we can't blame our being lied to as the reason for worshipping other gods. When you stop and think about it, you already knew when you were doing something wrong all along; you just made up excuses to justify what you were doing. I watched about ten minutes of a TV church service yesterday morning, and I have to say, I can see why people can get pulled into something they can't pull away from. The teaching of God's word is basically the mentioning of an address, and then it's all about what ever suits the world's view for the pursuit of happiness. Look at this picture that God presents in the Bible: Israel was at the prime of it's glory during the rein of king Solomon; yet look where they went from there; they were split up and started following all sorts of other gods. Don't think it is just history, because it's real stuff that happens to God's people today. How does it happen? Well, it's not like you plan for it, but there is a plan being played out; it's just that the planner is crafty and knows our weaknesses. Yes, you guessed it; the devil is real and he loves to destroy God's people. It happens because we take our eyes off the Lord and put them on the things of this world. Sooner or later, the things of this world become the desire of our heart, and God becomes less important. When that happens we start replacing worshipping God for worship of other things; things that bring us pleasure and temporary happiness. There is a movie that speaks to this, it's called "Holy Roller" and it shows a cross walking light pointing in different directions during certain times of the movie; when things were moving towards God the arrow pointed up, when they weren't it pointed down. Yesterday I heard a message from Pastor Ben; yes Jon's kid. Anywho; he happened to mention something that caught my attention; as he was speaking of evil, he asked his congregation a question, "Do you know what evil spelled backwards is?" I just thought it put everything into it's proper perspective...
""So why do you keep calling me 'Lord, Lord!' when you don't do what I say? I will show you what it's like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against the house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn't obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.""
