"They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep." (Psalms 64:6) The way I see it, some things only God can find, because not only do we not know how to look, but we generally don't want to in the first place. This word "deep" is a word that simply means "what cannot be sought out"; the reason that I believe this is so important in our relationship with God, is that God knows our hearts, far more than we could ever realize. Here is what I have come to understand, from a practical viewpoint: Before there was sin, sin did not exist in our hearts; and as soon as sin took place, then everything changed, and it all became about wrong verses right; good verses evil was now the battle within each and every heart, all because of one man's sin. It is probably more complicated than that, but I think you get the point. I base this point of view on the question God asked after Adam said that he hid because he was naked, God said, "Who told thee that thou wast naked?" God had already known that they were naked, because that is how He created them; but they were perfectly naked until sin was conceived in their hearts, and then their nakedness became naughty. You see, God already had the knowledge of what was in their hearts, way before they could ever find it themselves; He knows everything that there is to know about each and every one of us; way before we can even plan or think up something to do wrong, God already has the knowledge of what we will do. Jeremiah 17:9 says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" We might think we know what we are made of, but we most surely don't; only God knows the depths of our hearts, and only God can change us. But here's the thing that takes place in our change: there is a new heart that is created, one that is powered by the Spirit of God and not by sin; so we no longer need to search for something deeper, because it has no more power over our lives! Searching and digging into something that is no longer relevant is like looking for old sins, as if to say, "Where did I hid that?" We don't have to take part in that any longer; now we are meant to search out the things of God. The NLT version of Psalms 64:6 goes like this: "As they plot their crimes, they say, "We have devised the perfect plan!" Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning." God help us...
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds:) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled." (2 Corinthians 10:3-6) KJV
